Hickory Day School – Winner of the Charter Schools Facilities Planning Grant 2018/19

We are happy to present the master planning and preliminary design work we have done as
part of the School Design Grant for Hickory Day. Hickory Day is a TK-8 IB accredited school. In addition to core academics, students receive instruction in music, theater, visual arts, wellness, fitness, and foreign language. Students are grouped in two-year suites in order to optimize learning and stimulate instructional differentiation.

The school is very much in tune with the outdoors and we wanted to create an outdoor campus for them that is safe and well integrated into their topography. The master plan accounts for three phases: First Phase is the multipurpose gymnasium with an indoor track and outdoor stands, as well as outdoor soccer field and two tennis courts.

The second phase would build a new TK-8 school building that would be a split level, connecting the plaza with the lower level with an additional playing field. After the building is completed, the existing school would be demolished.

The third phase is building a new theater facility. Hickory Day envisions to share this facilities with other non-profit organizations in Hickory. This makes a lot of sense from a facility use standpoint and helps create stronger communities.
