Built in the 1920’s, Eastover Elementary School needed a renovation. A few of the design challenges included linking the disparate campus buildings, upgrading the media center, adding classrooms and support spaces, maintaining the colonial character of the campus, bringing the school up to state and county standards, and creating new outdoor play areas.
A substantial elevation change on the site allowed for a two-story addition with ground access to both stories. New play areas were created between the addition and existing buildings. While maintaining the existing street elevation of the school, the interior was renovated with a new administration suite and entrance, a new centrally located media center and improvements to all existing classrooms.
