CHARLOTTE LAB SCHOOL

CHARLOTTE LAB SCHOOL - Charlotte Lab School is a progressive K-12 charter school which promotes students using Uptown Charlotte as an extended classroom. The school has three campuses which were designed and built over a span of six years. Each campus was designed in collaboration with Insight Architects. The school consists of a series of renovated industrial, office and early education buildings. Each building strives to create a variety of highly flexible, varied, and stimulating learning spaces to work with the school’s educational model. This includes traditional classrooms, small group rooms, open collaboration spaces and individual project areas. The existing materials, such as brick, wood columns, wood floors and steel structure are exposed and contrast with the vivid colors in the new finishes and furniture. The design was highly cost effective to enable the school to start operating in the competitive Uptown Charlotte real estate market.
