URBAN FARM AT ALDERSGATE

URBAN FARM AT ALDERSGATE - Insight Architects worked with Carolina Farm Trust on the first Urban Farm on 6 acres of land leased from Aldersgate, to develop a master plan for a working farm. The master plan transforms the unused tennis courts, pool house and outbuildings into the first urban farm were fruit trees and berry shrubs are planted instead of your typical urban shading and buffer vegetation. The plan also features a demonstrative kitchen, aquaponics, a renewable roof over the new farmers market. East Charlotte is a food desert and the urban farm is supposed to provide fresh produce to the local community. In addition, a farmers market with also offer local dairy and meats.
